Privacy Policy

Turing Codex (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates turingcodex.com (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle visitor data. Our guiding principle is to collect as little information as possible.

We do not use cookies anywhere on the Site, and there is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

1. Analytics (Simple Analytics)

We use Simple Analytics for website traffic analysis. This is a privacy-first tool that lets us see how many people visit the Site without collecting any personal data.

No Cookies: Simple Analytics does not use cookies or any other tracking technologies.

No Personal Data: Your IP address and browser fingerprints are not stored.

First-Party Only: The analytics script is served from our own domain rather than an external network, so loading a page on the Site does not send a request to any analytics provider’s servers.

What We See: Aggregate totals (e.g., “150 people visited the home page today”), plus aggregate counts of a few interactions — clicks on outbound links, file downloads, and clicks on email addresses. These are counted in aggregate and are not tied to you as an individual.

2. Comments (Giscus)

Our Site uses Giscus for comments, which is powered by GitHub Discussions. Comments are stored in a public GitHub repository, vgabi94/TuringCodexDiscussions, which is separate from the Site itself.

Loading the Comment Box: The comment box is an embedded frame served by GitHub. It loads when you scroll to the bottom of an article, whether or not you have a GitHub account and whether or not you ever comment. When it loads, GitHub receives your IP address, browser user-agent, and the address of the page you are reading, in the same way any website you visit would. If you would rather not contact GitHub at all, avoid scrolling to the comment section, or block giscus.app in your browser.

Authentication: To leave a comment, you must authenticate via your GitHub account.

Public Information: Your GitHub username, profile picture, and the content of your comment will be visible to the public.

Data Storage: We do not store your comments in our own database. They are stored on GitHub’s servers. By using Giscus, you are also subject to GitHub’s Privacy Statement.

3. Hosting and Content Delivery

The Site is built and hosted on Netlify, and delivered through Cloudflare, which sits in front of it. Like all hosting and CDN providers, both may process standard connection data (such as IP addresses) for security purposes and to keep the Site functional and safe. Cloudflare also asks browsers to report network errors it encounters while loading the Site, which helps diagnose connectivity problems.

We do not have access to raw server logs from either provider for the purpose of identifying visitors.

4. Data Stored in Your Browser

The Site saves a small amount of information in your browser’s local storage so it behaves the way you left it. This includes your chosen colour theme, your most recent search term, which tabs you had open in tabbed sections, your scroll position, and which links you have already visited.

This information never leaves your device and is never sent to us. You can clear it at any time through your browser’s settings for site data.

5. Search and Interactive Exercises

Search runs entirely inside your browser. Your search terms are not sent to us or to anyone else. Note that a search term does appear in the page address while you are searching.

Quizzes, interactive diagrams, and other exercises are also evaluated entirely in your browser. Your answers and your scores are not recorded, transmitted, or stored by us.

Some articles link to third-party sites, including online code editors where you can run examples yourself. We have no control over those sites, and anything you enter there is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one.

7. Your Rights

Under global privacy laws (including GDPR and CCPA), you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data.

Since our analytics collect no personal data, the only data connected to you is what you voluntarily provide via Giscus.

You can edit or delete your own comments at any time through the Giscus interface or directly on GitHub.
